About the species:
The Lesser Violetear averages around 9.7 to 12 cm (3.8 to 4.7 in) in total length. They are medium-sized hummingbirds. There is a blue or purple cheek patch evidently surrounded by a sparkly green body. There is a slight decurvature to the bill. Both sexes share similar characteristics.
