Spanning 8 days and 7 nights, this expedition is tailored for passionate bird and nature photographers eager to capture the incredible variety of hummingbirds and tropical species that thrive here. From lush rainforests to coastal mangroves and eco-lodges designed for birding, this trip showcases the very best of Trinidad & Tobago.

  • Activities: Welcome to Trinidad! After arrival, transfer to Hacienda Jacana, a tranquil lodge surrounded by rich birdlife. If you arrive during daylight, take the opportunity to photograph some early targets around the gardens.

    Meals: Welcome dinner at the lodge.

    Target hummingbirds: Ruby-topaz Hummingbird, Blue-chinned Sapphire, Little Hermit, Tufted Coquette, Copper-rumped Hummingbird.

  • Activities: Enjoy a leisurely morning at the lodge or rise early to photograph around the grounds. After breakfast, we depart by 8 AM for a full day at the iconic Asa Wright Nature Centre. This is one of the best places in the Caribbean to photograph specialty species. We'll focus on elusive birds like the Bearded Bellbird and White-bearded Manakin, and have a strong chance at Amethyst Woodstar and many others. Return to the lodge by sunset.

    Meals: Breakfast at lodge, lunch at Asa Wright, dinner at lodge.

    Target hummingbirds: Brown Violetear, White-necked Jacobin, Tufted Coquette, Black-throated Mango, Long-billed Starthroat.

  • Activities: Today is dedicated to exceptional photography. We’ll head to Bajnath’s Estate in the Northern Range, where custom feeders and setups allow for close, clear photo opportunities. Fruit feeders bring in tanagers and honeycreepers too. You'll spend the full day immersed in hummingbird action, all with hot coffee or cocoa in hand.

    Meals: All meals included.

    Target hummingbirds: Tufted Coquette, White-chested Emerald, Copper-rumped Hummingbird, Blue-chinned Sapphire, Green Hermit, Rufous-breasted Hermit, Ruby-topaz Hummingbird, Long-billed Starthroat.

  • Activities: We hit the road early with packed breakfasts for a day of varied habitats and new species. We'll explore wetlands, agricultural areas, and a rare dry forest patch — great for habitat-specific birds. Lunch is on the move. Return to the lodge in time for a relaxed dinner.

    Meals: Packed breakfast, lunch in the field, dinner at lodge.

    Target hummingbirds: White-tailed Goldenthroat, Green-throated Mango, Blue-tailed Emerald.

  • Activities: Enjoy a final easy morning photographing around Hacienda Jacana — maybe one last look at the Tufted Coquette. Then we take a short flight to the island of Tobago. Upon arrival, we head to our coastal lodge in Castara. Keep your cameras ready — Barred Antshrikes and Trinidad Motmots may be waiting on the balcony.

  • Activities: Today we head into the heart of Tobago’s Main Ridge Forest Reserve — the oldest legally protected rainforest in the Western Hemisphere. Our main target is the rare and spectacular White-tailed Sabrewing. We’ll have lunch at a nearby restaurant and return for more photography in the afternoon.

    Meals: All meals included.

    Target hummingbirds: White-tailed Sabrewing, Copper-rumped Hummingbird, White-necked Jacobin, Black-throated Mango, Rufous-breasted Hermit.

  • Activities: We return to the rainforest to maximize photographic chances of the Sabrewing and other Tobago specialties. With more time and different lighting conditions, this day increases our odds of capturing your perfect shot.

    Meals: All meals included.

    Target hummingbirds: White-tailed Sabrewing, Copper-rumped Hummingbird (endemic subspecies), White-necked Jacobin.

  • Return to Trinidad & Tour Conclusion

    Activities: Enjoy a quiet morning at Castara Retreats before checking out. We return to Tobago’s airport and take a short flight back to Trinidad.

    Meals: Breakfast included.

    Note: Final night not included — guests must self-book an airport hotel in Trinidad.

Detailed Itinerary

We will attempt to stay true to this itinerary. However, certain unforeseeable conditions (political, climatic, environmental, cultural, or wildlife migrations) may require changes to the itinerary. We reserve the right to alter any itinerary at any time, if necessary. We will do our absolute best to notify participants of changes as far in advance as possible.

    • Expert local guides and drivers throughout the trip

    • All entrance fees to parks and natural areas listed in the itinerary

    • Comfortable accommodations (double occupancy; single rooms available for a supplement)

    • All meals from dinner on Day 1 through breakfast on the final day, with restaurant staff tips included

    • Land transportation during the tour

    • Airport transfers at designated arrival and depature times

    • International flights to and from the tour start location

    • Extra hotel nights before or after the scheduled tour dates

    • Additional gratuities for guides, drivers, or lodge staff (optional but appreciated)

    • Personal expenses such as bar tabs, laundry, phone calls, or souvenirs

    • Passport, visa, vaccination, and travel insurance costs (travel insurance is strongly recommended)

    • Medical expenses, including hospitalization or evacuation if necessary

Cancellation & Refund Policy

To confirm your spot, we require a USD $1,000 deposit. This deposit is non-refundable but can be transferred once to another tour within 12 months.

The remaining balance is due 90 days before departure. Flexible installment plans are available—just ask.

Refunds for cancellations are as follows:

  • More than 60 days before departure: Full refund of payments made (minus deposit).

  • 31–60 days before departure: 50% refund of payments made (minus deposit).

  • 30 days or fewer before departure: No refund.

If a tour is cancelled by us, you’ll receive a full refund or the option to transfer your payment to another tour within one year.
