Spanning 10 days and 9 nights, this expedition is designed for passionate bird and nature photographers. We’ll stay at handpicked eco-lodges — Duco Lodge, Macuquinho Lodge, Trilha dos Tucanos, and Pousada da Fazenda — each offering extraordinary opportunities to capture stunning birdlife in pristine natural settings.

  • Activities: Arrive in Curitiba by 10:00 AM, then drive through scenic countryside to Duco Lodge (approx. 3 hours). Depending on your arrival time, you may have time to relax and explore the lodge grounds.

    Meals: Lunch and dinner included (depending on arrival time).

  • Activities: Spend the full day exploring the forest, feeders, and trails. This peaceful area is teeming with hummingbirds and is ideal for photography.

    Meals: All meals included.

    Target hummingbirds: Festive Coquette, Black-eared Fairy, Saw-billed Hermit, Violet-capped Woodnymph, Sombre Hummingbird, Versicolored Emerald, White-chinned Sapphire, Glittering-bellied Emerald.

  • Activities: Continue birding and photographing in the lodge’s surroundings, focusing on refining shots of your target species and exploring new angles.

    Meals: All meals included.

    Target hummingbirds: Continued opportunities with the species listed above.

  • Activities: After breakfast, we depart for Trilha dos Tucanos (approx. 3-hour drive). Arrive in time for afternoon birding and photography at the lodge’s feeders and forest trails.

    Meals: All meals included.

    Target hummingbirds: Brazilian Ruby, Black Jacobin, White-throated Hummingbird, Violet-capped Woodnymph, Scale-throated Hermit.

  • Activities: Explore one of Brazil’s most productive birding spots. Feeders attract hummingbirds at close range, while trails may yield rarer forest-dwelling species.


    Meals: All meals included.

    Target hummingbirds: Same as above, with potential for improved lighting, behavior shots, and in-flight photography.

  • Activities: Morning departure for a scenic 4-hour drive to Pousada da Fazenda. This mid-elevation forest location opens up new photographic opportunities with a mix of canopy and understory species.

    Meals: All meals included.

    Target hummingbirds: Versicolored Emerald, Stripe-breasted Starthroat, Sapphire-spangled Emerald, Swallow-tailed Hummingbird, Glittering-bellied Emerald, Amethyst Woodstar, White-vented Violetear, Scale-throated Hermit, Planalto Hermit.

  • Activities: Full day of birding and photography in diverse habitats around the lodge. Excellent opportunities for capturing both feeding behavior and natural perches.

    Meals: All meals included.

    Target hummingbirds: Continued focus on species listed above.

  • Activities: After breakfast, we drive 4 hours to Serra Bonita, a cloud forest stronghold and hummingbird haven.

    Meals: All meals included.

    Target hummingbirds: White-vented Violetear, Amethyst Woodstar, Glittering-throated Emerald, Sapphire-spangled Emerald, Glittering-bellied Emerald, Versicolored Emerald, Swallow-tailed Hummingbird, Black Jacobin, Brazilian Ruby, Stripe-breasted Starthroat, Black-eared Fairy, White-throated Hummingbird, Scale-throated Hermit, Planalto Hermit, Green-crowned Plovercrest, Violet-capped Woodnymph.

  • Activities: A full day exploring Serra Bonita’s rich montane trails and feeders. Expect a wide range of species and excellent lighting throughout the day.

    Meals: All meals included.

    Target hummingbirds: Continued opportunities with all species listed above.

  • Activities: Early drive to Sitio Cotinga (approx. 3 hours) for focused photography of the Green-crowned Plovercrest — a stunning species often seen perched or hovering at close range. After lunch, continue to Lorena for the final overnight stay.

    Meals: All meals included.

    Target hummingbirds: Green-crowned Plovercrest.

  • Activities: After breakfast, we depart for São Paulo’s international airport (approx. 2-hour drive).

    Meals: Breakfast included (depending on flight time).

Detailed Itinerary

We will attempt to stay true to this itinerary. However, certain unforeseeable conditions (political, climatic, environmental, cultural, or wildlife migrations) may require changes to the itinerary. We reserve the right to alter any itinerary at any time, if necessary. We will do our absolute best to notify participants of changes as far in advance as possible.

    • Expert local guides and drivers throughout the trip

    • All entrance fees to parks and natural areas listed in the itinerary

    • Comfortable accommodations (double occupancy; single rooms available for a supplement)

    • All meals from dinner on Day 1 through breakfast on the final day, with restaurant staff tips included

    • Land transportation during the tour

    • Airport transfers at designated arrival and depature times

    • International flights to and from the tour start location

    • Extra hotel nights before or after the scheduled tour dates

    • Additional gratuities for guides, drivers, or lodge staff (optional but appreciated)

    • Personal expenses such as bar tabs, laundry, phone calls, or souvenirs

    • Passport, visa, vaccination, and travel insurance costs (travel insurance is strongly recommended)

    • Medical expenses, including hospitalization or evacuation if necessary

Cancellation & Refund Policy

To confirm your spot, we require a USD $1,000 deposit. This deposit is non-refundable but can be transferred once to another tour within 12 months.

The remaining balance is due 90 days before departure. Flexible installment plans are available—just ask.

Refunds for cancellations are as follows:

  • More than 60 days before departure: Full refund of payments made (minus deposit).

  • 31–60 days before departure: 50% refund of payments made (minus deposit).

  • 30 days or fewer before departure: No refund.

If a tour is cancelled by us, you’ll receive a full refund or the option to transfer your payment to another tour within one year.
