Featured Twice in American Bird Conservancy’s Bird Conservation Magazine, Spring 2026
Anthony Lujan was featured twice in the Spring 2026 issue of Bird Conservation, published by American Bird Conservancy. His photograph of the Marvelous Spatuletail was selected to represent the article “Protecting a Rare Marvel,” a feature highlighting conservation efforts for one of Peru’s most extraordinary and threatened hummingbirds. Known for the male’s spectacular racket-tipped tail feathers and elaborate display behavior, the Marvelous Spatuletail is one of the world’s most iconic hummingbirds and a powerful symbol of the urgent need to protect rare species and fragile habitats.
The same issue also featured Anthony’s award-winning book, Endangered Hummingbirds: Seeing the Crisis Through My Lens, in The Cache. The feature included a strong endorsement of the book’s purpose, noting its focus on threatened hummingbird species, the conservation challenges they face, and the visual power of Anthony’s photography. The article also recognized Anthony’s commitment to directing proceeds from book sales toward the conservation of the Chilean Woodstar, one of the world's most endangered hummingbirds.
This recognition is especially meaningful because it connects Anthony’s photography, writing, and conservation work with American Bird Conservancy and the International Hummingbird Society. Together, these efforts help raise awareness for vulnerable hummingbirds across the Americas and support real conservation action for species at risk of disappearing.
