Gabriel Lugo

Gabriel Lugo is a certified Puerto Rico guide, avid birder, and photographer based in Puerto Rico. His passion for birding began many years ago when he was invited to participate in an Audubon Christmas Bird Count. What started as curiosity quickly grew into a lifelong passion, leading Gabriel to become one of Puerto Rico’s respected birding guides and a familiar name within the island’s birding community.

Gabriel specializes in birding throughout Puerto Rico and the Caribbean Islands, with an exceptional knowledge of the island’s birds, habitats, and best locations for finding them. His expertise and keen eyes and ears make him an outstanding guide, and his enthusiasm for Puerto Rico’s birdlife is contagious.

Gabriel’s contributions to birding in Puerto Rico led to his election as President of the Puerto Rico Ornithological Society. He is especially passionate about finding and photographing challenging species. His own photographic nemesis birds include the Bay-breasted Cuckoo and Chestnut-bellied Cuckoo, two elusive species that continue to keep him searching for that perfect photograph.
